Best Senior Photo Locations in Olympia, Tacoma & Yelm
A photographer's shortlist of the best senior portrait locations across Olympia, Tacoma, and Yelm — with notes on light, parking, and what to wear at each.

Senior portraits should look like the year you actually lived, not a stock template. The location matters more than most people think — it sets the wardrobe, the mood, and even the pose vocabulary. Here are the spots we book again and again.
Olympia senior portrait locations
Washington State Capitol grounds
Best in late April for cherry blossoms and again in October for fall color. Park behind the Capitol; the side colonnades stay shaded all afternoon, which is what you want for clean skin tones.
Percival Landing & the Olympia waterfront
Golden hour gold standard. Shoot 90 minutes before sunset for that lit-from-behind glow off the marina.
Tacoma senior portrait locations
Point Defiance Park — Five Mile Drive
Old-growth forest with dappled light all day. Great for moody, editorial-feel portraits when the sky is overcast.
Downtown Tacoma — Theater District
Brick alleys, neon signs, and Union Station. Best on a cloudy weekday morning when the streets are quiet.
Yelm senior portrait locations
Bald Hill & the Yelm prairie
Tall grass, wildflowers in May–June, big skies. Bring a denim jacket and don't fight the wind — lean into it.
Nisqually corridor
Mossy fallen logs, ferns, and river light. Ideal for an earthy, PNW-native vibe.
"The right location does half the styling work for you. Pick the place first — outfits second."
