How to Build a Rain Plan for a Puget Sound Wedding (Without Losing the Photos)

Rain is part of every Puget Sound wedding. Here's how to build a rain plan that protects your timeline, your portraits, and your peace of mind.

How to Build a Rain Plan for a Puget Sound Wedding (Without Losing the Photos)

Rain isn't a problem for PNW weddings — it's a variable. Here's the rain plan we build with every couple before the day.

1. Buy the umbrellas now

Twelve clear-bubble umbrellas, ordered the moment you book the venue. They photograph cleanly, protect dresses, and double as a portrait prop.

2. Identify covered portrait pockets

Walk your venue with the photographer. Find three covered locations — one for couples, one for family, one for wedding party — that work with no rain plan or full rain plan.

3. Move the timeline 30 minutes earlier

If rain is forecast for after 5pm, push portraits earlier. PNW rain windows are short. Light and rain change fast.

4. Embrace the gray

Overcast PNW light is the most flattering light on earth for skin. Couples who relax into rain photos always love them more than the sunny version.

5. Have a towel person

Bonus role: someone who isn't a parent, who carries microfiber towels and dries off the couple between shots.

"Rain weddings have produced some of our favorite galleries. Surrender to the weather and the photos get magic."
